Grade Reconfiguration Review and Engagement Launched
Posted on November 22nd, 2019
As you know Terrace Ridge School is continuing to grow at a rapid pace. It is a testimony to the commitment from parents in an equally expanding area of Lacombe, and to the excellent work of our teachers and staff at the school. But with growth comes challenges.
Student capacity of Terrace Ridge School is 362, but this school year we have already exceeded that at 392 students, or 108.29% of utilization. This growth trend will continue each year and by the 2023-2024 school year Terrace Ridge School will be operating at 122.93% capacity.
To that end, we have initiated a comprehensive review of the current grade configuration of Terrace Ridge School and other schools in the Lacombe sector, to prepare a report with options for February 6, 2020 board meeting.
A crucial part of this review will be feedback from you as parents and guardians. We’d like you to consider the following question:
In a scenario where there is a change in the grade configuration of Terrace Ridge School for September 2020, what are some important considerations and questions to inform this decision?
WCPS will be gathering your thoughts regarding that question through a ThoughtExchange, which is an online engagement tool. The ThoughtExchange is open until from Nov. 22 to Dec. 20.
We value your input and encourage you to share your thoughts with us, and we are committed to sharing that feedback with you. We understand the prospect of change is often difficult. Regardless of the outcome, the goal is to honour students, staff and parents.
